Using the apostrophe to show ownership 2

The toy which belongs to the cat can also be written as the cat's toy. Putting 's after a noun (remember a noun is the name of a person, place or thing) tells you that someone or something owns whatever comes next. The cat owns the toy. The toy belongs to the cat.

However, sometimes there is more than one owner and more than one possession. Let's imagine several cats with any number of toys. The toys which belong to the cats. This can be written a shorter way: The cats' toys. Now the apostrophe goes after the s.

Copy each phrase into the box, putting in the apostrophe after the s, as in the example.
