By the end of this activity you will be able to: Recognise how the spellings of verbs alter when ing is added to verbs with short vowels.

Add the ing suffix to these verbs. Remember that to add ing to verbs with a short vowel before the final letter, you need to double the last letter.

Example: in the verb “swim” the “i” is a short vowel, so the “m” has to be doubled before you add “ing” to make “swimming” .
